Household Insurance question on previous claims

Hello
I am assisting a family member to complete the "moneysavingexpert" Household Insurance application for her household Buildings and Contents insurance. The question on previous claims asks " In the past 5 years, has anyone living at the property made any home insurance claims? "

Perhaps it is just my reading of the question BUT does this mean " living at the property at this time?? " I ask because a claim was made by her husband in 2008 for £800.00 but since that date he has not lived at the property and they are divorced.

I ask because adding the claim obviously increases the premium.

All advice would be welcome

Assuming that she and her husband had insured the home together in 2008 and were permanent residents there together, ie they both had financial interest in the buildings and contents at that time, I would say that this would have to be declared as a claim. Your family member would have been covered under this policy at the time and the claim was made against that policy.

For any quotes that you have found online that you like, I would ring the insurer to clarify as this may not be the case with all insurers. They would normally honour online prices over the phone and if they can't, get the information that you need regarding declaring this claim. Also make sure to make a note of the time and date of the call and the full name of the person you spoke to.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you, your answer was what I expected but obviously wished it were different.
We will ask the question direct of the chosen insurers.
Again thank you for your interest.
