Car insurance - NCD problem

Hi,
In order to individually keep our NCD protection, my husband and I for years took turns taking out annual insurance on our one car. This went wrong for the 09/10 policy when he renewed the policy instead of me. For 10/11 I was advised (wrongly?) to take a policy in my name and transfer his NCD to me. We did this. However, it looks like we now only have one NCD between us. Any insurance experts who can advise if it is possible to get our individual NCDs back and if so, how?
Thanks.

Aviva will take NCD that is three years old if you have a proof that is within that timeframe.0

Sarni, you're right, I shouldn't have transferred the No Claims. We tried getting last year's company to issue a proof for my husband but they say they transferred the proof to my name.
Quentin, thanks very much for the Aviva tip. I have taken a policy out with them using my proof from 2008. The fact that I was a Policyholder last year doesn't seem to matter to them.0
