cordless digital phone - beeps in the night

Have one cordless phone plugged into the phone socket and a second upstairs. When you replace the phones in their charges they give a couple of beeps, as expected.

In the middle of the night, when no-one is around, the phone in my bedroom will give a series of little beeps as if its been put back on the charger plus a couple. None of the phones have moved at this time, anyone know why or how to stop it? Keeps waking me up!

    You Don't Think It's A Ghost?
  • It could be a temporary blip in the power supply. Ours beeps when the power is back on, having been off for a while.

Can you not mute the sound at night?

I thought that at first, but it happens nearly every night.

I can mute the phone but not the charging unit.

  • Ours occasionally does this, not necessarily at night. It seems to be that it just isn't quite sat properly in its cradle and there must be a vibration or something which is just enough to set it beeping.

Mine did that until I replaced the batteries, had to use nicad mind you
  • I had a dect phone once, it was plugged in my bedroom and one night it rang, just twice.

It woke me up  None of the other phones in the house rang, just the dect one

Needless to say it then went in the bin :p
  • I've had phones ring just once in the night, but my OH says it is just BT checking the line.
  • About the bleeping - we've got electric heating, and the lights dim when it comes on. Could it be something like that causing a blip in the supply?

silvercar - you could change the batteries as crox suggested, you could also scrape the external terminations on the phone and the cradle to remove any deposits that may be causing a bad connection (its only low voltage and a small deposit on the terminations can prevent the phone from charging properly). Remember to disconnect cradle from the mains first!!!
