yes as far as we can see its just a astra with opel badges instead
of vauxhall not really a problem just wonder if we encounter problems with insurace etc

It's probably a European import. I had a Subaru originally shipped to Southern Ireland. Had to declare it as an European import on insurance.

The question to ask is, "Is it full UK spec"? Usually insurers don't load if the answer to this is yes. They are generally more concerned about Japanese and American imports which can cost significantly more to repair due to non-standard parts.

Does it say Open or Vauxhall on the logbook?

no idea as yet only seen it advetised at a garage on ebay
which is quite close to us will ask if we decide to view at the weekend would you expect it to be cheaper than vauxhall badged
    cars any one no
  • You need to check what the V5 (logbook) says. If that says Opel then you will have to declare that to insureres because its likely its a euro import.

It could be the previous owner has just rebadged it because the perceive Opel to be 'cooler', if thats the case the logbook will still say Vauxhall.

What is the chance is was originally sold by Trade Sales.

I think they were broadly similar but the europen spec cars can have some strange things missing.

Especially if it was originally intended for Eire. They have a habit of not having Aircon from what I have seen.

Vauxhall is a badge and a badge only. Opel is the manufacturer.

There will be no strange parts in the car.

Many not strange parts, but there may well be differences. Insurers get antsy about differences because it can mean having to hire a car for longer due to difficulty getting parts, for example.

Also, check if the VIN plate says Vauxhall or Opel, because in the event of a claim you know damn well the insurance assessor will do that and use it as an excuse not to pay out.
  • I had an imported Opel Speedster (Vauxhall VX220) a few years ago and whilst some insurers couldn't find it on their system, it made no difference to the final cost. During the time I had the vehicle the amount of people approaching me to ask 'What the hell is that?' and other such phrases was great. The 'lightning' badge really complimented the look of the car. However...and this is my point...(finally i hear you say!) when it came to selling to it, the badge put off a fair % of prospective purchasers.
