Cavity wall installation -house built 2000

Apaprently, all houses built since 1992 have to have had it fitted.

However, a friend of mine has just had they're house done and that was after 1992.

My house was built in 2000 by Barratt cowboys, and we have a lot of problems with drafts etc.

I've heard you cant have cavity wall insulation redone but how do I tell if it has been done already?

Did they give you an 'as built' manual of information?

Where are the drafts coming from?

It has never been a requirement, and still isn't. The designers have to achieve a heat loss figure - how they do it is up to them. You could get a cavity wall insulation survey done and see what they say, or you could drill a hole in the wall and have a look.

Chances are it was designed right, but not built right and I would be looking at plasterboard walls, anything that penetrates the inner leaf - pipes, cables, joists etc. and general fit of doors and windows for starters.

    HTH Brian,

And Barratt (the housebuilder) are complete cowboys !
  • Funnily enough had someone from Mark Group knock on the door last night.

They drilled into the wall and had a look (and showed me). No cavity wall insulation....

Anyway, signed up with them now. Cheers Barratt..
