sliding wardrobe doors

Hi all

Myself and partner have recently moved into our new home. the bedrooms both have ideal fitted wardrobes with sliding doors. They are ideal in size but the actual doors are mirrored and quite ghastly really!!!

Has anyone had any experience with installing sliding doors? im not adverse to DIY, i just do not have the foggiest idea where to get them from (at a decent price) ive seen some in homebase but they seem a bit pricey.

Any ideas folks? Help!!

Could you stick on some frosting plastic sheet kind of stuff?

  • Most sliding doors are a simple lift off arrangement. However heavy glass sliding doors may well be supported and held in at the bottom in addition to the top runners. Not all runners are the same so it is important that you not only obtain the correct sized doors but also they will fit your existing runners. The way to ensure this is to contact the manufacturer of the doors/runners you have. You may find a maker/part no. stamped somewhere on the runners.

If not available you may well be faced with changing the runners and doors. Not difficult as the framework they attach to has already been built.
  • Ikea have a selection as reasonable price but you may require different runners as RR above says

i wouldn;t buy the cheapest of teh cheap though - sliding dorrs are big and heavy and can be very annoying if they don't run smoothly
  • thanks guys, ive found some on the screwfix website that seem reasonable, although im reluctant!!! would love to find some reviews of the products!

I turned my doors round and gave them a coat of paint. I guess if I'd fancied a change later on I could have wallpapered them as well.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
