Weird remote control problem

I have just moved an LCD tv up to my bedroom and hooked up an old dvd player to it....... but the remotes have gone a bit haywire!

The tv remote randomly seems to work/interfere with the dvd player and visa versa.

Wanted to turn up volume - tv remote decided to fast forward dvdinstead:D
Tried to skip a bit on dvd - it turned tv to standby:D

None of the buttons seem to do what they should
Any advice.... am guessing I could buy an all in one remote but clueless as to what type and if there is a (free) better way I'm all ears

TIA

    first thing. tried new batteries?
    are they the same brand?
does the TV remote have the ability to control a DVD player?
  • We recently had a very similar problem with a tv when we moved one from one bedroom to another, as ours was a relatively new Technika tv from tesco, we called the helpline and they advised to take the batteries out of the remote control, then press each and every button on the romote control in turn, replace the batteries and hey presto, everything worked fine.
Maybe a different make of TV but worth a try.

The remote signals are being received by both devices, albeit in different ways.

IMO, buy the one for all, which can be used to operate both devices, without the cross over.

get a digital camera or mobile camera
point the remote at the camera and you will see if the remotes are active without any buttons being pushed( you can see the infra red light as white light)
i had an issue similar ot this, and it turned out to be a remote that was 'jammed' on and causing problems

Actually they are being received the same way, its the microprocessor in the device which interprets the codes differently.

Don't see how. The one for all will just send the same IR signal as the original remotes so why won't the cross over occur?

Have you got a laptop with an IRDA port?
Direct sunlight (not likely right now, i admit!) can affect IR.

Yes, you are right, I am wrong, it would still happen.

Erm, don't know what the OP should do then, probably just get a new dvd player that doesn't have this problem!

Agreed, not very money saving but probably the only solution.

    Thanks everyone

Not exactly the most moneysaving answer but at least I find out without spending on a new remote first!
