OK, it's not their fault the media is obsessed with 'em on the basis that if it's Royalty then wow, it'll sell papers. But commercial exploitation of their flippin' wedding gets more nauseating by the day. I've just received a routine email from booking.com (normally, a sensible outfit) with this gushing tripe:
"Don't miss the Royal Wedding! Rooms near Westminster Abbey are going fast so book now before all the best deals elope!"
Oh fer Gawd's sake, puh-leeze. Never mind hotel rooms near Westminster Abbey, one somewhere in West Mongolia has more appeal on Ye Great Wedding Day (providing it has no telly, radio, or Internet.)

But someone to whom that mail has been sent will want to stay in London for the wedding. Just because you don't doesn't mean it's a pointless mail. I know advertising's getting smarter these days, with tailored products based on your usual spending habits. But, unless you've specifically ticked 'I do not like Royal Weddings' then it's difficult to target this particular example of marketing."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
