Don't use WMP it's very fickle when it comes to video file formats.
There are plenty of free alternatives such as VLC, Media Player Classic - Home Cinema, etc."...IT'S FRUITY!"0 -
Agree VLC media player plays nearly every format .
Otherwise you need a codec pack for WMP ( just google wmp codec )

Thanks for all your reply. I am aware of VLC.
The reason why I wanted WMP is that I also want to use Media Centre on my PC [on win XP]
Still searching for the right codec pack0
