b It always amazed me how poorly HCAs get paid and alot of them do more work than the nurses and the only difference is nurses can administer meds but I work in pharmacy and most nurses no nothing about what the actual medicines do. just give what the dr has prescribed, IMO the NHS is in the mess it is in because of the number of 'managerial' staff. one manager get the salary of 4 HCAs and do they really do that much work to justify there salaries? hmmmmmmm hopefully when the cuts arrive these are the people who will go so the cuts dont affect everyday people not just the people who work in hospitals but the people who need care in them, the wards are already seriously understaffed and i fear it will take some serious mistakes to happen before anything changes. sad really

As far as I can work out, you are suggesting that neither nurses nor managers are needed in the NHS- after all, your partner is practically a nurse because she has done some ward-based training!
I suppose, by that reasoning, you are a pharmacist because you work in a pharmacy.

I don't think you understand the important differences between HCAs and nurses in terms of role, knowledge and responsibility/ accountability.

(I was going to try and offer assistance, but don't think I'll bother now!)

band 1 doesnt exist anymore I dont think band 2 is the lowest one and she doesnt even get the bottom band I dont think. As far as i am aware she get a percentage of band 2 pay point 1 and then when she did her portfolio and was qualified she started to get band 2 pay I dont even know if she ever got an increment :s It always amazed me how poorly HCAs get paid and alot of them do more work than the nurses and the only difference is nurses can administer meds but I work in pharmacy and most nurses no nothing about what the actual medicines do. just give what the dr has prescribed, IMO the NHS is in the mess it is in because of the number of 'managerial' staff. one manager get the salary of 4 HCAs and do they really do that much work to justify there salaries? hmmmmmmm hopefully when the cuts arrive these are the people who will go so the cuts dont affect everyday people not just the people who work in hospitals but the people who need care in them, the wards are already seriously understaffed and i fear it will take some serious mistakes to happen before anything changes. sad really

Running down the nurses doesn't help the HCAs! Nurses work really hard too, and remember that they have more responsibility for the patient if something goes wrong on their watch. They're on the same team and shouldn't resenting each other!

I don't think any hospital would last very long without any managers or admin staff. The staff wouldn't know when to come in, No operations or appointments would get scheduled, No mistakes would ever be investigated etc. etc. etc.
