problems getting pay rise in NHS

I'm a bit confused by this - I'm an HCA and I started on a certain wage which goes up an increment every year I've been there, its not dependent on training or anything, just length of serviceProgression is dependent on the post holder demonstrating applied skills/ competencies and knowledge...you are aware of the gateways and KSF outlines for the post?http://www.rcn.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/159531/General_HCA_competences.pdf
This is applicable to the general HCA level because they:
identify with the help of others:
whether they can carry out the tasks within their own job
what they need to learn to do their current job better
when they need help
review their work against the KSF outline for their post with their reviewer, and identify own learning
needs and interests
produce with their reviewer a personal development plan
take an active part in agreed learning activities and keep a record of them
evaluate the effectiveness of learning activities for their own development and the job.

Band 2 currently - 13653 - 16753, which is somewhat more than NMW for 37.5 hr wrking week.

They only get the full band 2 salary after the portfolio has been submitted though. That will be what the OP is waiting for.
The current salary for full time HCAs who haven't done the portfolio (in my trust) is around 11,700 (so essentially NMW) which isn't listed as a pay point for any band on the relevant table in your link.0 -

The salary you quote doesn't make sense, the bottom of a band 1 post is around £13700 (p19 in above link).
The job profile has been matched to a band 2 - if your claiming HCA's are being placed in a lower band, you need to raise this with the unions as a matter of urgency.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

band 1 doesnt exist anymore I dont think band 2 is the lowest one and she doesnt even get the bottom band I dont think. As far as i am aware she get a percentage of band 2 pay point 1 and then when she did her portfolio and was qualified she started to get band 2 pay I dont even know if she ever got an increment
It always amazed me how poorly HCAs get paid and alot of them do more work than the nurses and the only difference is nurses can administer meds but I work in pharmacy and most nurses no nothing about what the actual medicines do. just give what the dr has prescribed, IMO the NHS is in the mess it is in because of the number of 'managerial' staff. one manager get the salary of 4 HCAs and do they really do that much work to justify there salaries? hmmmmmmm hopefully when the cuts arrive these are the people who will go so the cuts dont affect everyday people not just the people who work in hospitals but the people who need care in them, the wards are already seriously understaffed and i fear it will take some serious mistakes to happen before anything changes. sad really 0 -
Yes, Im aware of that, we have a personal development plan which is signed off every year. Speaking personally I've done ok in them, so I've had my pay increases. I however did not have to complete a portfolio when I started, I was started at full first point band 2 wage as were my colleagues who started with and near me.
I do however work in mental health and Im aware our pay scales etc are slightly different due to the 'dangerous' nature of the job.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

I'm not sure what you mean by this? You would have been matched to a national profile - this would have allowed for appropriate factor weighting to reflect a band 2 or band 3 outcome.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
We dont have band 3 in our hospital. All HCA's, no matter, how long they've been there or what their skills are, are band 2. I know that it used to be the case that we used to get a premium payment because of the nature of the job but we dont get that anymorevit seems so I do stand corrected there.
However as far as I know no-one starts any higher than the first point whatever their experience but certainly no less - is it that different trusts have different rules? Also we get enhancement payments - I thought that was fairly standard as well - shouldnt it be that those should be paid anyway despite the basic salary which should make it more than NMW? if thats not the case then some trusts are seriously exploiting new HCA's!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
