    lol,
    seriously, what will happen ?
  • why do you say "Of Course they are" - this wasnt expected...

immediately after the announcement, SS Futures came off, now half hour later they are back up as the markets are digesting the MPC info and realising its not what they first thought...
On the basis that a rate rise next month is looking even more and more certain, the markets have responded. I imagine the markets were expecting a 7-2 vote so have responded accordingly. Had the vote been 8-1 i imagine the pound wouldnt have done anything worth noting, if not fall slightly.
  • Im waiting for that creep Blanchflower to crawl out of whatever stone he's hiding from and say that rasising rates is a bad idea and will collapse the UK, Europe, the World and the Universe.

The 6-3 is actually better than market consensus. Indicating that a rate rise is not as likely as perhaps was expected.

Hence SS Futures higher, and cable lower, than where they were at the time of the announcement.

What will happen if 4 vote for hold, 4 for 0.25 and one for 0.5 ? is the result hold ?
The vote was to hold at 0.5 or not.
Presumably, if the result was to not hold at 0.5, then they would have to have another discussion/vote about what to change it to.
And then you might guess that those who wanted a hold would then vote for the smallest change on offer.

The governor has the casting vote.
  • It's hillarious, people i am talking to this morning have got it in their heads that the BOE will be raising rates by 1.5% over a year, and then thats it.
What i think will happen is there will be raises of 0.25%, and everytime they do so there will be little if no impact on inflation. I can see rates back to some kind of historical norm within 3 years, maybe as high as 8 or 9%.
