You are the very person AD refers to,he needs to step out of his ivory tower.
To some extent your sig probably !!!!es a lot of prople off on here.
Nope, if I thought that I would say so, RM may have taken a large risk but he certainly isn't being bailed out by the taxpayer and as I've said directly to him good luck to him but I wouldn't be supportive of taxpayer rescue deals to save him or anyone else at the expense of the next generation, who are being royally shafted anyway at this time.RenovationMan wrote: »That wasnt my intention. I joined MSE to post on the MFW board and document my house renovations and mortgage battle (mostly for my own entertainment but some regulars to seem to view it) and the sig is a standard one that many people have there, I just copied them.
I must say that I havent felt any animosity from anyone on this board, apart from when I had the anti-sock puppet idea, and I certainly dont feel that people are hoping that I fail in my challenge. Perhaps I'm naive in this, but being an optimist I always try and see the good in people.
I do really like passing time in here, the regulars are a good laugh and there are some decent, clever posters to debate with.
So just to clear that up.
Have owned outright since Sept 2009, however I'm of the firm belief that high prices are a cancer on society, they have sucked money out of the economy, handing it to banks who've squandered it.0 -

A cautionary tale on the very real dangers of trying to speculate on timing the markets... And listening to bad advice on the internet.[/QUOTE]
But surely, any advise you take from the internet should be backed up with your own research.
It was through reading housepricecrash that I managed get my home at a decent price rather then taking the advise of the EA and the lending bank to 'borrow to the max to get on the ladder'.
I took the doom monger's over there with a pinch of salt but found some very sound financial advise at times.
I should just point out that I stumbled on both the moneysavingexpert and housepricecrash websites cus I'd started to to think there was something wrong (the increasing price of houses against folks actual pay increases). I have gained much from both sites TBH.0 -
I might be wrong but i dont think Righmove covers the north of Irealnd
Rightmove does have some Northern Irish properties, and so does www.daft.ie, which covers all of Ireland, including both the Republic and NI. However, www.propertynews.com describes itself as "Northern Ireland's largest property website", so probably has more properties there (although I'm only guessing). Or when you say "the north of Ireland" did you mean the more northern parts of Eire? If so, I would think www.daft.ie would be the place to look.
Property Bee works with all these sites.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I see your point, but if prices go down, the next house I buy will do the same, so its swings and roundabouts really.
"My friends paid £190k in 2007 for a house that is now worth £60k. That's tragic. What would you say to them"
That must be very very niche circumstances though. Not a trend by any stretch. All I'm trying to say is, people seem incapable of seeing past losing a bit of money on a house. I (and I'm sure many others have done the same) have lost about £8k in depreciation on my car since I bought it 3 years ago... people don't post on forums about that thought
Not at all 'niche', house prices in NI have fallen through the floor since 2007. It's carnage here...RenovationMan wrote: »Christ! What did it do, burn down?
LOL. No, it's in Northern Ireland (Belfast, to be precise).Hectors_House wrote: »A cautionary tale on the very real dangers of trying to speculate on timing the markets... And listening to bad advice on the internet.

Can you point me to an example of one of these properties please, perhaps on Rightmove. Sounds a tempting buy.
Have a browse.

p.s. the cheapest stuff is in REALLY bad areas, you wouldn't even want to BTL there as the occupants would petrol bomb you if you came round about rent arrears... these are areas that anyone with half a brain wouldn't go near in daylight never mind at night. Nevertheless, they would have been insanely expensive at the peak.
I know of many, many examples of people who have bought here since 2004 and are now in massive NE. I thank my lucky stars that I was smart enough not to be one of them.
