E.O.M Bills on empty House
Can anyone please help/advise? Basically I have just discovered I am paying around £135 per month for gas and elec from Eon but my house has been empty for 5mnths apart from a week and a half at christmass. I have been giving actual meter readings (one recently and one abt 2mths ago) and Eon are sending someone to check both meters but I can't imagine they will be more than 5% - 10% out.
Can there be any other causes? the only thing thats left on is small freezer?

What's the actual kWh consumption? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

What is the split between gas and elec?
It may be the boiler has a frost stat which causes it to switch on if the temperature gets too low, this is designed to stop things freezing up.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi mmm1,
Already good advice from macman and spiro :T
I think you need to take their advice first and find out how many kWh you are using and if this is mostly on gas or electric.
E.ON can give you this info.
You say you are paying £135 per month, is this being used to clear the bills or is the account being left in credit?
E.ON also have a consumption department, it may be worth having a word with them to see where the energy is being used and what can be done to reduce this.
Shout up if you need any more info.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure of the actual kwh etc will find out when I go round at the weekend. I switch the boiler of at the wall so don't think the frost mode will kick in and it was frozen up for the nearly the whole of Dec. The spilt is abt £50 elec and £85 gas. I'v not really been paying attention to the bills etc as I pain about 140 around xmas and wrongly assumed this would cover me for a lot longer. It's only a small house and know that nothing else is left on apart from the freezer. Thanks again0

The kWh consumption is on your bill. You seem relaxed about it for someone who's paying more to power an empty property than most of us pay for one that's lived in: £1,620pa?!
Why are you leaving a freezer on in an empty house though?
Something is clearly very wrong, as if no gas is being consumed (no pilot light burning?) and only a freezer on, you cannot possibly be running up those kind of bills from standing charges and a freezer. Immersion heater left on 24/7?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Trust me, I'm not relaxed about it!0
