Can I return a mattress?

Hi folks,
Looking for some advice please on my consumer rights. I bought a mattress 6 days ago from archers sleep centre for £850. It is supposed to have a special breathable gel which is responsive to body temperature. But every night I have woken up drenched in sweat I'm so hot. Do you know if I have a right to return a mattress? Is there a timescale for returning?
Thanks for any help

This whole mattress thing should go in the new FAQ thing!
BTW I have NO idea! One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
Just thinking out loud here, but if it was sold as having special properties that controlled body temperature to offer a good nights sleep and it does the exact opposite, then is it 'not as described/fit for purpose'...?
Have you tried different bed sheets? They can effect comfort. Or a lighter duvet?0 -
I've heard this about all those mattresses that mold to your body, e.g. tempur, gel etc. They all make you really hot apparently. Unfortunately I doubt you could argue that it's not fit for purpose - it's just what they do. A quick google would probably have revealed this before you bought the mattress; it's certainly how I found out when I was looking to buy a new mattress. I decided not to go for one because of this aspect. Who wants to boil all night?
You have a number of options, some more palatable than others: 1. Get used to it, 2) email the company today, wrap it back up and reject under DSR (you might have to bend the truth a little because you shouldn't use a product before you reject under DSR, merely inspect it), 3) reject under SOGA as not fit for purpose.
I don't really fancy your chances with options 2 and 3, plus you could argue 2 is immoral or even illegal. From these pages alone, it would appear that returning mattresses is notoriously difficult. Good luck."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I'll doubt you'll get anywhere trying to return it.
Use lighter sheets/duvets, open windows etc...
or try and sell it on 2nd hand.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Have you checked with the company? I know when we were looking several companies allowed you to return the mattress if it wasn't suitable. You will probably have to pay the costs of returning .Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0
