aldi fresh meat

Hi, I have just started to shop at Aldi and find it quite good for most things but have not yet tried any of the fresh meat or chicken. Could anyone tell me if it is ok. I noticed that it had the red tractor logo and the packing says 100% British. Is this a good guide. Many Thanks

jeez - I happen to be one of Aldis' greatest fans!!! yes their fresh meat is good! I cannot, hand on heart say it is better than your local butcher, but comparing it to the main supermarkets - I dont think its less quality and its miles better than some!
hint- Aldis whole fresh chickens are much better tasting than the other supermarket beginning with 'A'. I buy mine from Aldi and mum buys hers from A*** and there is a noticeable difference in taste and texture!
I also buy Aldis fresh cubed beef, pork chops and their specially selected bacon (maple syrup one).
  • Thank you for a quick and very enthusiastic reply. I am shopping tomorrow and wanted someones elses opinion before I bought any of the fresh meat.
  • The organic chicken at £5 is good.
I buy the cubed beef at £ 2.69 but it needs a really long cooking time in the slow-cooker
    Keep calm and carry on
  • I'm another Aldi fan - the minced steak is excellent - very low fat and better value than the standard mince.
Pork steaks are excellent too - very well trimmed so you buy meat not meat and fat.
Free Range chickens are good - the £2.99 are okay but I buy free range whenever possible for ethical reasons

it is really a stewing beef - but saying that I did a beef in guinness with it last night and with only two hours in the oven it was really nice (was really supposed to be for today but OH smelt it cooking and wanted it last night!).
  • I'm a recent Aldi convert but have to admit I was a bit nervous about trying the meat but after all these positive comments i'll definatly be giving it a try!

    Thanks.

The Red Tractor logo tells you that the meat is produced in this country. What it doesn't tell you is how. Producers adhere to the minimum standards required by legislation. As in factory-farms, so that's not really saying much. I'm not sure whether everyone who sees that logo appreciates this. Still, I suppose it's better than the factory-farms in Thailand, for instance.
  • I popped into our local Aldi for the first time last Friday. I bought a free range chicken for £5 and we cooked it today. It was absolutely gorgeous, really succulent and tasty. I will definitely be going back and plan to try lots of other meats.

  • I shop for almost everything at Aldi, except for meat! I get mine from my local butcher but I am lucky in that his prices are very reasonable. Having said that, I have had meat from Aldi a few times and it's always been good - had some steak mince the other week and it was really good quality so I'll be buying that again (my butcher doesn't do it for some reason!)
  • Thanks everyone. I have often wondered what the fresh meat was like. Will definately buy some now.
I like the deli/cooked meats in Aldi. They have a good selection at a reasonable price.
Bought some lovely parma ham from there recently which was half the price of Morrisons and Asda.
