Item missing from package

I sold a north face jacket with fleece on ebay on sunday. I posted both yesterday in the smae package and the buyer recived it today.

They have said that that only the fleece arrived and not the coat. So either the buyer is trying it on(i don't think so as they would have claimed all not recived not just the coat) or somehow the coat has found it's way out of the package.

What should we do as far as the buyer goes?

And what can we do as far as either claming through royal mail or getting the coat back?

Thanks

If the packaging was damaged in the post then the Royal Mail usually put the whole lot in a plastic bag with a printed reason as to why they've done this on the outside. What you need to do is offer the buyer a full refund on return of the remaining item but require them to send back all the packaging including the bag as well so that you can make a claim from Royal Mail.
  • Thanks. I have checked with the buyer and they have said that it was not damaged and no note or anything from royal mail.

Can I claim from royal mail without the original proof of purcahse of the coat?

If the packaging was not torn or open then I cannot see RM even entertaining the idea of a partial claim as they would surely argue that if the parcel was intact when it was handed to them and when it was delivered then one or other of you must have the coat.

Do you have a note of the weight of the parcel? Surely a fleece weighs a lot less than a fleece plus coat
  • Yes I sent it standard parcels so have the proof of postage that shows it as 1.372 kg. I have asked the buyer what the weight of the package was and they said 600g
  • Could the buyer have bought more than one fleece from ebay and the other one has been mistaken as yours?

As your COP says different weight to the weight on the parcel label and there was no sign of damage to the parcel.

Sorry that was confusing the cop and the postage label say the same weight of 1.372kg but they only recived 600g worth.

I have contacted royal mail and they have advised me to fill out a claim form. The buyer is going to go to the local sorting office today in the hope that it is there.
