incidents without insurance claims on company car

Hi,

I have been driving company cars for several years and would like to purchase my current car to use privately now. I therefore have to pay for insurance.

I had about 5 or 6 incidents on the various cars over the last 5 years. The leasing/management company has produced a claims history letter for the last 5 years. The leasing company has not made any claims against the insurances, but it is written "the policy holder paid for the repairs in full" against each incident. The "policy holder" would be the leasing company rather than myself.

Would I still qualify for a no-claim bonus with my new private insurance against those circumstances, since they would find no claims against the various insurances?

Thanks,
Seb

You don't have any proper no claims bonus.

But you may be able to get an introductory discount to reflect your driving history (though you will need to declare your incidents to any new insurer).

See if a local broker can help over finding any insurers prepared to give an introductory discount.

But is a "no claim bonus" related to incidents, even if not paid or reported to the insurance, or actual claims made to an insurance (so the insurance paying for the repairs).

"No claims bonus" is awarded by insurers to their policyholders following completed policy years when no claim has been made on the policy.

You don't have any proper "no claims bonus".

All you have is a driving history (though not a "clean" history) driving company cars.

Ok, but when I contacted several insurances for some quotes, they asked if I could get a confirmation of the previous insurances of no claims made, so that I could get a "no claims" discount, even though the car was a company car.

In my case, incidents were reported to the leasing company, but no claims were made to the insurance, as the leasing company prefered to pay for the repairs.

Your premium is first based on your risk - including your driving experience (and incidents). Then if you have a NCD it is allowed against the premium to get a net figure.

When you don't have any "proper" NCD (as in your case), then some insurers will take into account your previous experience as a company car driver.

This is what you should be aiming for, and as previously posted a local broker should be able to get you an introductory discount.
