The answer is in your question it is never a good idea to put money into something you don't understand.

In shares you risk losing everything can you afford that if the worst happens?
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

I had no idea about stocks and shares either when I bought my first £1000 worth in the 80's.

Since then I have made mistakes i.e. buying shares that dropped in price very quickly. But I have made up any losses and done well since.

If you really want to have a go choose a broker who gives advice without charge ...the one I use is The Share Centre (Share.com) and, as it happens I have never asked for advice but I have invested in a couple of shares listed on an email they send each week. The ones I chose myself have done a lot better though.

You could start small after doing a bit of research on places like Fool.com or iii.
Perhaps you could buy a couple of blue chip shares which pay a decent dividend. I know that some people only buy shares that pay a good dividend.
  • Trade your investments is ideal.
Buy for ten years but sell every time it gets too high relative to rest of market then buy again when it falls back enough to be cheap.

Do that enough times correctly and you can withdraw all your original money and still own the shares as well. Lots of even big shares vary by 20% every six months

Thats the ideal, in practice people dont sell or buy at the correct time. With these riots is this is a time to sell everything or buy more ?
Market could easily rise more but it already did alot
put about £100 to £150 month into it

scaling is good I think, I often dont have a clue so scale in
