this is a long one.......
my hubby took a fully comp car insurance policy out with tesco in march.
in april he crashed his car into a metal fence (much to his embarrasment!!!)
he cracked the radiator and crumpled the bonnet and bumper, so he decided to claim through the insurance and pay the £600 excess (young driver)
the 1st prob was the courtesy car - he wasn't covered for the length of repair, just 2 weeks, and it took the repairers 10 days to even look at it - despite daily phonecalls.
when they did finally look at it, it was written off (cat c), this was because it was a rover and the parts are in high demand after them going bust. tesco only offered us £2000 to replace it (£1400 after excess) Our car was a 2004 model, with fsh,top of the range, extended warranty with our dealer who were honouring it despite rover dying a death. basically we couldn't find anything close - and believe me we looked!!
so my hubby decided to buy the car back from tesco for £1270. tesco would then pay the remaining funds to him for the repairs- my hubby got the car repaired and rec'd the cheque.
so far the process took 11 wks,and he only had a courtesy car for 2 wks and had to live away from home cos he simply couldn't travel to work.
a month later he rec'd a call from tesco saying that due to an admin error my husband had only paid tesco £127 for the car, and wanted the extra back immediately. my hubby had spent this, and more,on the repairs. he explained this and tesco said to leave it with them.
nothing was heard.
my hubby then found out that despite paying for a fully comp policy he was only receiving 3rd party only cover. he has tried calling about it, but each time tesco say they won't until they receive the ££ back.
what i am trying to ask is whether they are able to do this? surely it was their error that they sent too much money.
please could someone let me know either way?
sarah

Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.
wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!

I am not sure 100% what your question is but if the vehicle was deemed a total loss then it is fairly common practice to say that the insurer will only cover it on a TPO basis onwards as effectively the vehicle is only worth the scrap value. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

thanks, am i correct in assuming that because we made a claim during the agreement (we pay monthly) that we would still need to pay tesco's premium if we cancelled?
i really don't like the idea of tpo until march.Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.
