PPI from more than 6 years ago and catalogue?

I had a loan out in 2002 - they conned me into taking out PPI, can I still reclaim this?
Also, we have just noticed that our catalogue has been charging us PPI, apparantly from 2004, however I always just went online, paid the balance and stupidly never checked anything else. I know we never asked for this, because since the loan PPI mentioned above I have never taken it out on anything. We phoned them, they investigated and have come back and said no way are you getting anything, you must have known it was there and you must have asked for it. Are we fighting a losing battle here?

Hi there
Its worth a go, if its only recently you became aware of the mis selling of ppi make them aware of this as well, or you would have otherwise challenged it earlier.
If you was not given the final decision from the catalogue, write to them again and ask them to send you any written evidence they have to refuse your reclaim.
Good luck.
Edited to give more details.
I would suggest making a reclaim in writing only and not on the phone, you should keep copies of what you send and receive in case you want to take things further later on, for example complain to the financial ombudsman service if eligible and keep at them until they give you the final decision, the final response will inform you if your able to complain to the FOS or not.
All you do is complete the reclaiming questionnaire as on the link below, stage one, send to head office or complaints dept if they have one of these - to whom set up and sold you the account.
They are entitled to 8 weeks to make a decision, may write to ask for more time, hope this helps, good luck.
