  • Vaio is better - I also do own a Toshiba (bought at the same time) but the vaio is much better.

Just don't let your mum drop a mirror on it then post on here. Poor Nerrit is being slaughtered (comet have utterly screwed me thread) :(

  • I've had 2 Sony Vaio laptops.

The battery went in the first one & the fan went in the second one.

I don't know whether these are common issues or whether I was just unlucky.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

    I like Toshiba laptops too

Good build quality, excellent specs, and overall quite competitive in pricing

    They win my vote

Avoid dell if you can - they aren't what they used to be

  • One other thing I would say about my Vaio - I thought I had mucked it up a little while ago, spilt tea on the keyboard, just the top left hand corner though. Don't know whether I was just lucky or what, but it had no illl effects whatsoever!

  • I like Sony Vaios, I always think they fit in a nice gap between cheap laptops and expensive macbooks. You savea bit of money wihtout having to lose out on quality. Are there any in particular that you are looking at?

The one I'm looking at is the basic one, VPC e30e I think. It's got 3 gb memory, 320gb storage, built in webcam. It's going to be used for e mail, surfing, I Player/ youtube, Facebook etc. what I consider to be low level stuff. Price is £380. I know i can get with same spec for about £330 but thought would go for a bit of quality.

Thanks to all for their help.
  • That looks quite good to me! Nice to see Sony selling kit at that kind of price, I always saw them as a company who sold products at the 500-1200 range.
  • I had a Vaio, it was really good when it worked.........nice screen I recall, however, when it failed three times with a motherboard fault, I began to think it was just overpriced junk..actually the third time it failed was 2 months out of the 1 yr guarantee: it cost £900 to buy, and Sony wanted £700 to fix it..! with SOGA, Comet actioned a store credit for £900. Would not buy Sony anything again. I think it was the sony customer services, that when asked if they would honour a repair FOC given the relatively small timescale of ownership, and two previous faults replied "Unfortunately not, Sony like to treat all customers fairly with service standards".....So, that would be the same standards of your product QC then!
  • If you wouldnt mind a smaller screen and lower spec, theres a Sony Vaio on the top of this Laptop page. 260 is pretty good for Vaio!
