Hi there,
My mum has just received a letter from the council asking for money back after she was paid too much - 7 years ago! Is this allowed? Is there not a limit to how far back they can go? 7 years seems a little silly to me. I was just wondering if anybody knew...
Thanks0 -
Hi everyone,I am a bit confused about the Lha 2008 date,I have been receiving housing benefit since 2005 as I have a disabled son does that mean my housing benefit will not change or does it go by when you moved into the property which for me was 2009. Be gratefull for any help.0

I am working and recieve £35 a week housing benefit. My partner is moving in, he was on JSA and now has no income as to signing off due to my income. I have 3 children. I am worried I will lose the single parent premium allowance on my housing benefit and will therefore lose my benefit. even though there will be no income from my partner. Any advise Thanks.0

I moved to my current privately rented address three years ago. Will I be affected? I have not had a letter of any sort from the council about these changes. I'm not in a position to move - I'm not well enough and t here's nowhere where I live that is actually within the new limit for the area that enaables a person to live on t heir own. I'm above the age where you are expected to share and I can't share for mental health reasons. Also the cheaper housing all goes to students as we have two universities here in a relatively small city and they're all shared places, mainly with no lounge. Also everywhere wants a financial guarantor if you're not working and I have none. i got this place while my mother was still alive and now I have no family.0

Although my husbands pension has been reduced due to an over payment, we have been told that we are not entitled to an increase in our housing benefit. This does not seem to be fair. The overpayment was in 2007.0

I have received housing benefit for 8 years, I am mentally ill and unable to work and today have just received the letter to say that I will only get about £50 month which means I will be homeless. I pay to a private landlord and have done for 9 years and its £450 a month, I have to top up now and have no spare money from my income support, what do I do, desperate and scared.0

DeeBrown - if your HB will be £50 per month, this is £11.54 per week against a rent of £103 ish. From this, I assume you have other income> COuld you tell us a bit more about your situation? Are you under 35, do you receive LHA, what size accommodation do you rent?
You say you are on Income SUpport so would get max HB and there are no places in UK where the Shared Room Rate is £11 per week. Did you mean £50 per week?
I would advise contacting the Council to apply for a DIscretionary Housing PaymentI currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

We are obliged to use the full pension before any overpayment recovery in the calculation.
Every April, the amount of money the Govt say you need to live on changes and increases so it is likelt that your award has changed?I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
