How do social tariffs work ?

The social tariff only has to be better than the suppliers standard (i.e. most expensive) tariff. Unless you are on a prepay meter, you are often better to take a 'normal' tariff.Gone ... or have I?0

Yes when you realise the subsidy on the standard tariff is by a levy (really a tax) on all other customers. The last figure I saw quoted was we all pay on average £35 a year for the energy companies to susidise their standard tarff by what is really a small amount for them to appear to be helping those on a low income0
