Wedding in fen 2012 honeymoon ideas....

Hi me and my partner are getting married on 18th feb 2012 and are starting to look where to go for our honeymoon. I like the idea of going to Australia as I haven't been before, she has and loved it so that's an option. Question is...has anyone been to Australia? South ideally and do you have any tips e.g. Cheap flights, visa's etc. Seen a few flights but they are £1000+ per person!!!. Cheers, Chris

Have you thought about the Cook Islands, I went there for my Honeymoon and loved it
  • Maldives, fab time of year to go. I went 25th January a couple of years ago and loved it.

Congrats by the way, good luck with the planning.
  • What do you want out of a trip? The Phillipines or actually just about anywhere in south / south east asia would be glorious that time if year, and though I've never been I would take a trip to New Zealand rather than OZ as a honeymoon. Are you looking for beaches? Exotic culture? Trekking and the outdoors?

Flights to OZ are always going to be expensive, but will be insane this far in advance. I wouldnt book more than 9-6 months in advance, when you might get something around £800.

As above I would keep an eye on the prices for Australia for a while yet. Most airlines won't have their prices published so far in advance and those that do are generally going to be very high. Also bear in mind that flights that are scheduled for around Valentine's Day will generally be more expensive as airlines try and capitalise on those jetting their loved ones off to sunnier locations.

With air fares there is often a curve with where the best prices are.

People who buy long in advance often pay more then as the date approaches the airlines reduce the fares in order to fill up seats, then increase them a couple of months before the flight to catch the people who saw the cheaper deal a few weeks earlier and then feel forced to buy because the price is going up right until the last few days when the airlines sky rocket the prices to capitalise on the "must fly now" people.
  • Also, many of the cheaper airlines wont even have their schedules yet, and will only publish them 9-6 months in advance.

  • But.. you get longer to pay for it if you book earlier... So it depends on how flexible you are in terms of dates and where you go - ie if you are tied to dates and location, it can sometimes be good to have it all sorted.

I live in Sydney at the moment, so would be happy to answer any questions about Oz. Small word of warning though - the FX rate isn't great and things over here can be expensive... Depends what you want out of your honeymoon, but spoiling yourselves here with treats (ie nice drinks/dinners, days out, pampering) ain't gonna be cheap! Personally, I think I'd choose SE Asia where the quality is as good (if not better) and you get a bit more bang for your buck.

Fiji is also a great destination - I will PM details of a fab resort if you like?
