Laminate / worktop cut-offs

I'm after 70-80cm of solid wood/butchers block type worktop, or a solid black laminate.

I've looked on Ebay but it seems all the collection only's are never in my area. I'm waiting to join freecycle, so I can't look on there at the mo, any other suggestions please.....?

Phone a local kitchen fitters or joiners, they might have some left over from a job.

Are there any new houses/flats being built near you? You could always walk by and ask some of the guys on site if there was any left over.

Ask at your local supplier, they might have a larger damaged section you could get a part of at a discount.

You can quite often get them in the sheds - either damaged, or offcuts. Ikea also do the woodblock wortops and they sometimes have damaged pieces in the bit next to the tills where they have cheap stuff.

  • Try a branch of Howdens. My local one has a regular stock of busted worktops - at "get rid of them" prices.
  • If you have an ikea near you they often have strange offcuts of worktops.
    De cluttering Konvert.

  • Go to any local timber merchants that sell worktops - look in your yellow pages or online. The are likely to sell worktops and will probably cut to size their standard ranges. They may well have offcuts knocking around.

I don't want to be rude or judgemental but it does amaze me how often someone will waste a pile of time searching e-bay or will ask a question on a national forum to source a teeny few quids' bit of product they need from round the corner that a quick conversation with a colleague or a look in the local phone book and a couple of local calls could sort out!

Thanks for your comments, I asked because I've recently moved back to this country from abroad, don't have a yellow pages, don't know the area, and don't have any colleagues as I am not working I am restoring the house. A tiny bit unusual perhaps.

I did find a Howdens (thanks Denvillesman) and not having anything, they suggested a company about 15 miles away who I called and they do have a selection which I'll see next week. Result.
