More Than Pet Insurance Default Notice!

Hi,
Just got a letter from More Than stating that they've served me with a default notice because they couldn't collect 1 months payment for pet insurance!
This has happened because I cancelled my direct debit with them, the reason being I didn't wish to renew my policy.
I find it unfair that they've sent a default notice as there was no warning of this.
I'm really just wondering if I have a good case to get this default notice removed. I'm going to try anyway, I'll give them More Than!

If you pay monthly, you may have entered into a credit agreement and this depends on you maintaining your monthly payments.
Should you fail to do so, they will probably send out a default letter, which I guess is what you have received. You should check your terms and conditions to see how the cover was set up.
Contact them and ask them about their cancellation terms. At this stage, there isn't likely to be anything registered on your credit file. Aviva tried it on with me a few years ago over an automatic renewal I cancelled by letter to an address they gave me. I started getting proforma default letters from Westcott and despite it dragging on for four months, nothing ever showed on our credit files.
In general, it's better to contact the insurer, explain you wish to cancel and ask them if there will be any charges to do so, before you start cancelling direct debits.I am a mortgage broker.
