I think I might need it ....
At the end of a long story comes the fact that I have offered to try to "foster" one of my sister's dogs. I have a patterdale terrier, who isn't the most dog friendly dog and her dog is a lurcher who has spent the whole of his life living with her other 4 dogs where they currently live, on 26 acres of land (we have a terraced bungalow on a housing estate).
We introduced them on Sunday and it went reasonably well, with one minor little "handbags at dawn" incident.
I am at work today but OH has got the lurcher with our dog for the day. So far, fingers crossed, he says it is going well.
Any advice on helping to settle them together gratefully received.

apparently the lurcher is refusing to eat or drink.
Does anyone know if that's normal? Should we be worried? We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -
It'll be stressed in it's new environment, I wouldn;t massively worry about that personally. Try feeding her in an area on her own when she's feeling a bit more relaxed. Think on it from your own point of view, she's been taken from a house she knows with others she is used to and put into a new environment where she's having to find the lay of the land with new people and dog that may not massively want her there.
Is she crate trained, if so put her crate somewhere quiet and safe, and encourage her to eat and drink in there, as well as relaxing and sleeping in it, make it the the best safe haven a dog could hope for.0
