Hi All,

After getting some advise on this forum i aplied for my £2 credit report from each of the 3 agencies.

I already pay a company 'checkmyfile' a monthly fee to view my reports, but this doesnt give me much detail from Experian, so i decided to try and sign up for their monthly access.

(i couldnt have the free 30 day trial as i had that a few years ago)

When i came to sign up it says it is £14.99 a month!! £14.99 a month are they crazy?!?!?! i rang them because my boyfriend only pays something like £6.95 a month with them so thought it must be wrong, but the guy told me no all new and re joining members are now £14.99 per month!

I just cant beleive it and how expensive it is! its a lot cheaper just to apply for the £2 report every month! (although the downside is that its only once a month and not up to date right there and then)

/rant over! (feel better for it!!)

Yup, the price is a rip off.

I feel so very sorry for the less savvy users that are actually buying into this and paying £14.99 a month to see their own data which they have a legal right to see for £2 anyway.

This is the way of the market though and as the old moniker goes, Caveat Emptor.

You are making a very wise choice not to sign up for this insanely overpriced product and certainly are better off and a wiser consumer for opting for the £2 statutory report any time you need to check whats there :o

if you get the £2 report and you find an error, will they rectify it or do you have to join to get them to do that?
I'm unclear on why we all have to pay £2 to access something so important in the UK, but which is within our legal rights to see.

They will dispute the data with the creditor for you but they will only communicate in writing (email / letter). If you want to be able to call them, you need to pay the £14.99/Month.

Although any time I've called them I've been advised they can't take a dispute over the phone and to use their website / email in anyway so that's a moot point I guess.

  • After seeing a cashback offer on their 30 day trial, I thought I'd try the offer. However its impossible to see your report without the pin number which they claim they will send after 5 days.
IT NEVER CAME...and (probably as they hope) I forgot about the whole thing until today...

Gave them a ring and told them I want to cancel as the trial runs out tomorrow and the PIN had never been received. The first guy initially said they would send a PIN this week, but of course the trial would be over before I receive it meaning I'd have to pay....then when I was unwilling, tried to convince me i could access the account without a PIN....when clearly this is not possible. Then he passed me to the cancel account chap...after 5 mins of holding, this chap tried the same trick...

They finally said they would cancel..although I wouldnt be surprised if I get charged...

The PIN not arriving could have been a mistake, however the way that both advisors tried to lie and say the PIN was unnecessary clearly show they are dishonest.

If you include the "credit score" then it is a scam.

I am, of course, assuming they provide you with a 999 as part of your £15/month fee.

In some instances where sufficient information is found on your credit file to verify you along side the card authorisation done as signup they grant instant access without the need for a PIN.

But if sufficient information isn't found and / or the card doesn't authorise as being at the same address they have to send out a PIN.

But to say ANYONE can access it without a PIN is, as you rightly say, is a load of rubbish.

Absolute shambles trying to squeeze this much money out of joe public just for the sake of them being able to (or having to) chase up the banks that PAY EXPERIAN who leave false / inaccurate data on our credit files.

    *Sigh*...

EDIT: Paul - yes the score is now "inclusive" - and as inaccurate as ever. Rated mother as VERY POOR but she was given a FD account and car loan with no referrals to underwriters or additional info needed. Honestly... rating people as EXCELLENT who have never had a credit card or loan in their life and rating those as VERY POOR who have not missed or been late with any bills in 25+ years and lived at the same address on the ER for 20+ years. Bonkers.
