Kitchen Smells

I think that the problem is you are replacing one smell with another! I prefer to keep the kitchen window open as much as possible. Neutradol is good but does have a smell. I knew someone who was a smoker and had cats and swore by it. A saucer of bicarb absorbs smells (I keep one in the fridge) A pile of newspapers also absorbs smells if it's a small kitchen.
If your partner doesn't mind a 'replacement' smell, a tumble dryer sheet hung on the radiator smells nice first thing in the morning as they have a 'fresh' fragrance.

Tumble dryer sheet, interesting! Not thought of that.

I have seen a lot of places mention the bicarb but always in the fridge. Would it work in the kitchen too?

I'm going to try the oust as that is an odour neutraliser and see how we get on, but I think my next step will be candles. She loves candles too.

Thanks for all the tips so far! :T
  • My mum and sister both swear by Price's Kitchen Candles - they have good reviews on Lakeland as well. Plus they're only £2.49 each so you can't go too wrong.

I got some for Christmas but haven't actually tried them yet... They smell nice in the packet though! :)
  • Oops sorry just seen they were recommended up thread!
  • Thanks though, I didn't know you could get them in lakeland. I will call in at the weekend. :)
  • The oust has worked well, but we also found we had an apple scented kitchen candle which is working well too.

    Thanks for all the help.

I wouldn't use anything to be honest. You're trying to get rid of smells by using something else that will smell.

I had it bad with all my pregnancies. I couldn't go into the kitchen, or near a bin and eating out was off the list!

It subsided after about 20 weeks, so I guess she'll just have to put up with it for a while longer. Much better than clogging the air up with crap trying to mask smells.

Just keep the windows and the back door open so any smells can escape :)

  • The candles seem to work quite well at neutralizing the smell rather than trying to over power it.
  • I feel for you, when I was pregnant just the smell of the gas cooker being lit was enough to make me sick :(
We just used to shut the door as soon as OH started cooking and he would open the back door to let the smell escape before eating his dinner (usually on his own) in the dining room. I was basically on a diet of sandwiches :rotfl:
Thank goodness its only a temporary thing lol

Whoops! Sorry, didn't realise you'd posted to say the candle was working for her.

Hope it goes for her soon, it is horrid, I couldn't even open the fridge without retching and all the foods I love I couldn't stomach.

I didn't go anywhere near my husband because he drinks coffee which I can't stand ~ but being pregnant made it ten times worse, urrgh!

Me too - anything could set me off. I used to commute to London and the smell of the Weetabix factory on the way would set me off. Still struggle now with the smell of warm Weetabix :rotfl:

Personally I wouldn't use anything to cover up the smells.
