Hi guys, can anyone give me any clever advice here?
Im locked in my house, second time this has happened in about 4 months :o my front door has little circly knob to turn to open the front door on an old yale style type lock - basically the knob will only turn a tiny amount, not even enough to make the bolt bit retract hence Im stuck....
OH isnt home from work until 5!

EDIT: my neighbour came round with thier key but they couldnt get in from the front either......

  • Does it feel like the lock has seized or just stuck in the door? Sometimes you can free it by pushing/pulling/jiggling the door itself at the same time you try turning the knob. Might be worth contacting a locksmith or purchasing a replacement lock if it has seized.
  • I have the same style of lock and it often locks me in or out of the house!

Our problem is caused by the whole lock mechanism shifting slightly and not lining up with the hole, meaning it will only move a few mm

Try moving the key (and the lock) towards you and away from you as you try and turn it. With a few minutes of jiggling I am usually set free :D

I carry a back door key with me at all times now! It is also easy to change the lock.

sometimes the flat bar in the yale lock doesnt line up properly or is worn/too short.
a new yale barrel is the answer.
    Get some gorm.
  • I can't offer any advice but I hope you get out soon. Could be worse, you could be locked out :-D
