I phoned my insurer to grumble about this year's increase in premium. Got the usual excuses regarding claims last year etc. I asked how to reduce the price, was told to check my mileage covered from MOT to MOT. I had done 2000 less than my policy allows, so reduced the policy figure by 3000 (agent said they allow 1000 leeway) This caused a reduction in the premium payable of £30 which is 10% in my case. I'll have to watch the mileage towards the end of the year, but was told if I inform them of an overrun in the last month or so they don't usually bother to increase premium.

Thanks for that Alter ego. I had never thought of checking mileage on the MOT certficate. Usually just divide total miles by age of car. MOT is more accurate.

That would only work if you had if from new.
