Sorry, another feeding question

i feed my 6 month old chocolate labradoodle Science Plan Vet Essentials large breed Puppy food (dry food), she seems to have went off it, is there anything i can mix through her food daily, i have tried her with tuna through it and she loved it, should i just stick with that or do you have any other suggestions..
any advice will be greatfully received :)

  • is she doing well on the Hills?

Have you thought of changing her over onto another kibble, say Burns, james Wellbelove, Arden Grange, Orijen etc?

Personally I would also add a little wet food into the mix, sometihng like nature diet, nature menu, or a raw mince like Prize minces.

Dogs noses are exceptionally sensitive, and the aroma coming off the food is more important than the taste to them, so it's worth adding some warm water swilling it about and releasing some more of the aroma captured in the kibble, you'll find she should be keener on the food then. I'm not convinced the hills makes a good gravy when you do this, that's why I was suggesting a possible controlled change over to one of the others.

If your dog likes tuna, have you tired her on sardines or pilchards in tomato sauce, mine go nuts for this mixed in with their dry food. it's also a great source of Omega's (Fish body oils) which are very good for your dogs well being. Tuna should be fed on alimited basis, for the same reason it's no longer recommended to be eaten regularly in humans. Heavy metal poisoning is apotential problem building up if they or we eat it too regularly.
  • I am open to changing,, i have a big 10kg bag to get through and then will perhaps consider buying a different brand, I will do as you suggest and add something through it each evening, try her on the plain kibbles in the morning but add something in the evening..
I always add warm water and then let it soak in a while, but still she seems off it...

Get a few trays of nature diet, and put say a quarter of one into her bowl, mix it into a soup with hot water then add the hills do this at each meal. Leave her food down for a max of 15 mins then lift it donlt give her anything til her next dinner time ;)

If you decide to change brands start when you are a third down the bag you have now, mix a little of the new into the old, slowly reducing the old til eventually she's completely ont he new food, this will avoid any gastric upsets, though in fairness my pair happily switch brands without doing the change over as recommended ;)

Labs are bellies on legs, once you find the food she likes best you'll be wishing for your pickie babe back hehehee
  • thanks for that information, i have taken note and plan to visit the pet shop after work today ... :T
