Yep same happened to me, I looked into why only the reminder email found its way into the spam folder yet all other mails including the thank you for your renewal email made it into my inbox.

I found they send their reminder email address with a different 'reply-to address' from all the other emails. Now is this to ensure it gets into your spam folder? When I complained about this they said:

"The renewal email is sent from noreply@tastecard.co.uk due to this being a no reply email address some email accounts will pick this up as being spam."

This statement is not entirely true, all they emails are sent from noreply@tastecard.co.uk but the renewal reminder has a different 'reply-to' address, namely 'enquiries@tastecard.co.uk' which is probably what is causing gmail to file it as spam.

Why do they do this only for the reminder? They ignored the question when I asked them but smells bad to me.

Because it's easier to manage bounced emails, emails with auto-responders etc, which can be time consuming.
Does someone with some legal experience think theres a case here?!
If they sent a reminder i'm not sure you're in a great position.

You can of course challenge the auto-renew as a whole, but auto-renew is used for a magnitude of products & services, from insurance to web hosting to rolling monthly phone contracts which most wouldn't consider unfair, but convenient.
BTW Don't forget to sign at petition at groubal, MSE won't let me post the link here
Here's the link http://www.groubal.com/tastecard-auto-renewal-scam/

I won't be signing it though i'm afraid. If your email put it in the spam folder, I don't think they can be responsible for this considering it's a variable completely out of their control.

Had they not made it clear or sent the email, thus clearly hiding the information I may agree.

Also not sure exactly what the petition will achieve - what happens wen you get a lot of signatures for example?

I saw this thread and thought I'd put my query here..

I've had a tastecard for a couple of years and really rate the scheme - my partner and I are big foodies so we've saved hundreds (at least...) on the card/. However I too was really surprised when I was billed for auto-renewal even though I'd have renewed anyway - it WAS unclear when I signed up that this is what would happen

Fast forward to today, I've been sent an email telling me I need to renew my card, with a link which says something like 'renew here'. When you click it, it takes you to the homepage with no obvious renewal area - so have I just 'opted in again' simply by clicking it?

The thing is, I'm now actually not sure if I've renwed or not, as I['ve had a new debit card since I first signed up and think it uses this info to renew. Any idea what's happened here?

Sorry, a case for what?

Illegally sending emails with a different 'reply to' address?

No, adjusting your normal email process to get an email caught by spam filters. Every other email they sent me arrived in my inbox, what made google decide to mark that one as spam?

The idea that spam filters 'are completely ouside the conrol of the sender' is rubbish, its the reciepient who has no control (maybe switching them off? Not in this age), every online business carefully composes their email headers and content to ensure they reach our inbox, something tastecard clearly knows how to do since all 12 of their promotional emails made it into my inbox, but then they thought they would change some things around for the reminder email? Funny that.
• I'm not a fan of the taste card scheme and their automatc renewals. I know it's my fault for not cancelling but even after a phone call and receiving a phone call from a supervisor they refused to reimburse me even though the original card does not run out for 2 days. I have learnt my lesson and will not be encouraging anyone to get one. There are so many good restaurant deals out there anyway.
• I too have been the victim of Tastecard's auto-renewal scheme. I received an email this morning that they'd automatically renewed my membership. I regularly receive Tastecard's promotional "no reply" emails, so double checked to see if I'd received one about the renewal, and I hadn't. So I spoke to a rep in their call centre, explained that I hadn't been notified in advance, wanted to cancel and asked for a credit. However, I was informed they HAD sent me an email, which I contested, but was told "it probably went into my spam box". Why would that be, when I receive all their other promo emails (also from noreply@tastecard? Or are they deliberately coding them so they do go into people's spam folder so thus miss the opportunity to cancel.

Bad form Tastecard, very bad form. I urge anyone who doesn't feel they're getting the financial benefit of membership to cancel theirs ASAP, so they don't get stuck in the auto renewal scam like me.
