Building Regs Required??

Hi.
We are in the process of buying our first house so are new to all this. The house we are buying is fine except the kitchen is '70's style. What we thought of doing to give us more room in there is to block the doorway up to the dining room. We would still have access to the dining room via the hall & living room (at the moment there are 3 doors into the kitchen from the dining room, rear garden, & hallway) Would we need building regs to stud this doorway??

No, unless any structural work is required.

Won't need Building regs to block a door, but it sounds like a bad plan to me. Dining rooms are very often never used and having to trape this distance seems like a bad plan. How about knocking through to make 1 big room of the dinning room and kitchen? (this might need Building regs depending on the walls structure).

What about if proposals alter means of escape or other fire safety issues?

    Hi.
Thanks for the advice. The reason we thought about blocking up the doorway to the dining room is the kitchen measures 10'7" X 7'5" & having three doorways into it seems to waste too much space.
