Online or Offline?

Hi, I start a new job in 3 weeks which will require me to go to work on the train, I was just wondering if my debit card will be accepted for payment at the bar and for the tickets.

I'm 18 and have the Natwest Adapt Account, I chosen not to upgrade to the Current Plus as the interest is better on this account.

It is a VISA Debit, and the card number begins, 4751 2801, if this is online only and I decide to upgrade to the Current Plus will I be issued with an offline card?

Thanks. :)

Its an Online card and should not be relied on to work on the train. If you upgrade there is no guarantee that you will get an offline card with the Current Plus. The Cheque Guarantee facility is credit scored, which is what you need to be approved for to get an offline card.

Only the Servicecard works on trains.
  • If you do upgrade and get the Blue Visa Debit Card then again this is the Full-Auth (Online) card - Only the Purple Visa Debit Card is Offline..

In regards to train tickets - some parts of the UK operate a system where if you don't have your tickets when you board, you will be fined and can't buy them on-board.

Always buy them at the station or online if you can!

Thanks to both of you. I think I'll go for the purple card in a few months when my monthly wages starts coming in.:)

I'll just have to remember to keep some notes on me in the meantime..

e.g. London Midland's penalty fare system
    the adapt card works good
works @ train stations and goes overdrawn since no check for funds it seems
