HP Dv7 laptop processor?

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone could help me with a little advice about the processor for a HP Dv7 laptop. It was my SIL's laptop but it stopped working so she bought a new one and sent the old one to her cousin in India as he's a bit of computer whizz and said he could keep it if he got it working again.
Anyway, he now seems to think it's the processor that's at fault and has asked his Aunt (my MIL) who lives over here if she could get hold of one in England as he believes it will be a lot cheaper than India and so my MIL has asked me if I might be able to find a price for one. Soooooooo......
I know it's a AMD Turion x2 64 P/N fv813ea#abu (Taken directly from the back of the old processor), but having searched google for it I cant find an exact match on the part number. Will any other AMD Turion x2 64 processor work though or does it have to be the same p/n?
Sorry for the noob question? I'm pretty handy when it comes to fixing stuff in my MIL's house, so she assumes I can fix everything else as well..... I'd hate to let her down!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
In my experience, the CPU itself is one of the least likely components to fail but if you want to source a replacement, ebay will be your only choice I think.
A quick search on the laptop's product number suggests the CPU is the RM-72 from this range. I don't know if any of the CPUs in that "Lion" family would work but I'd stick to the RM-xx models to be on the safe side and certainly wouldn't try a non-"Lion" model. Unfortunately definitive information about CPU compatibility of laptop motherboards/BIOSes is pretty much impossible to find.
If you hunt around on HP's site you may find some documentation on how to dismantle/reassemble that particular model to get at the processor. I don't know if they make this kind of thing available for all models but they're better than most manufacturers in that respect.0 -
unless it has overheated, motherboard, graphics or dc connector/circuitry are more likely, what are the symptoms?!!

Thanks for the replies. See now, I thought it would be strange for the Processor to fail but he thinks that's the most likely cause.
Anyway, I did change the motherboard before my SIL sent it off to India, but obviously that didnt work. Basically, the laptop would turn on and all the lights would come on as well, but the screen was blank. Nothing at all, not even a backlit black screen. I then suggested it may possibly be the screen.
To explain a little further, my SIL first took it into a computer repair shop on Tottenham Court Road here in London and they suggested it was the motherboard but said they would charge around £300 to replace it. This is where I came in and my SIL asked if I could change it, which I did (alot cheaper). This then didn't work and she again asked the guy in the same repair shop what it could be, he then suggested the graphics card or hard drive. I told my SIL not to waste any more money on it and instead buy herself a new one as clearly this guy didn't have a clue and was now simply guessing!
When she sent it off to India, I suggested that it was most likely the screen, but her cousin seems to have other ideas?
So what do you think?
