Car Insurance Renewal

My car insurance renewal is due from 1 March. I have not yet received a renewal notice from my existing insurer and have gone ahead and renewed via Quidco and a different insurer. I have a theory that they deliberately delay sending a renewal notice in the hope that you will not notice and then they renew the policy automatically, usually at a much higher rate.
Is this the way things are done now. They are doing themselves no good by delaying. I, for one, like to get the new insurance in place well before the renewal date.

I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

It may well be in the post, its been like this for a few years but theres no reason for us to be lax about it, mines up for renewal next month and ive not had my renewal yet but apprently its on its way, have you told your insurer you will be leaving them0

renewal invites are supposed to be sent at least 21 days before the renewal date. If you have already gone elsewhere dont wait & see if they auto renew, get on the phone and tell them not to renew.0

vusys is correct.
Contact them immediately to tell them you wish to cancel the renewal.
Once the renewal pack arrives, WRITE to them confirming the cancellation and returning the new Certificate Of Insurance. Send it recorded signed-for to have evidence you posted it.
Keep notes/copies of everything, including details of the time, date and recipient of your phone call.
Yes, I did have problems with an auto renewal myself.

The mystery has been solved. I rang my existing insurance company and they said they had sent the renewal papers during the first week of the month. I never received them. Amazing how the Post Office manages to deliver piles of advertising crap, but cannot deliver an important letter.I can afford anything that I want.

It's more amazing how many posters have all had the Royal Mail lose the "sent" renewals recently.0 -

Leave the Royal Mail alone. Why I heard just the other day they'd delivered a post card which was sent during world war one. What a favour they've done as it may be of value now. Hope it got to the right person though...Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0
