Just wondering if anyone could shed any light,My dad has a W reg polo, and im being kindly given it for a present.

Im wondering if it is a catogary damaged, the reason i ask is about 12months a go his wife was driving to work and some guy pulled out in front of her and bumped the wing/bonnet..

The car was repaired as they said it wasnt a write of,due to value of the damage compared to the damage of the car.

no log books was sent of,car just got booked into the garage and was repaired and returned a week later, end of story.

does that make it a CAT D??

i suppose i could check it out on hpi,but before i spend the money just wondering if anyone knows how these things work

Thank you for the help

Sounds as if it is just damaged repaired. If in doubt phone an insurance company asking for a quote for a car you are thinking of buying and ask them if there are any markers on it.

No. It has to be written off by the insurance company, i.e the car is deemed too expensive or not fit to repair or was stolen and not recovered for 6 months, with the owner compensated for the value of the car in order to be category anything. A car having accident damage repaired and given back to the owner does not come under any write off category

As already stated, your car is fine, in fact there are probably more cars like yours on the orad than ones that have never been damaged.

My NHS Trust has reshelled vehicles and they never appeared on any register, as due to the huge excess they are fixed from NHS funds.

The fact that some of the reshelled vehicles where seemed slightly better built than the ones built in the factory did not go unnoticed, I never knew that a Zafira actually had a working heater!!!!!!!!! Always assumed ours had that option deleted, certainly felt like it.

Good luck with your car, a W reg Polo is probably a bit better built than some of the new ones.

wow reshelling you'd of thought that would be on the register, but like said its only if its wrote off,,the W plate polo to be honest is a real minter,,i used to be a painter on cars and do repairs,,and a few crash damaged,,suppisingly i dont know the rules on insurance write offs!:D shame on me.

my dads had it for about 6 year, always serviced etc, well look after little 1.4 16v,,i am having to give my old cavalier up 1600 1995,had it since 1999,,never once let me down, but its gettin to that age where its leaking in all over,,and the engine needs a rebore,2 ltrs of oil a month,,and now the CAT'S blocked so its of to car heaven..RIP much loved old car :D
