Orange Iphone and moving to Australia help!!
I bought an Iphone for my mum Christmas 2010, it was what she wanted but after christmas she found out she could get it on a £29 a month contract instead of the £50 due to her being on a contract for a while with orange. I was told i could take the iphone back to carphone wearhouse but they then said because id bought it on the 13th of december and not the 14th i now can't take it back because that was there christmas period of if you need to take phones back. Myself and my parents have rang orange and carphone wearhouse on a number of times but they dont seem to be bothered to do anything about this. The trouble is im moving to australia in a few weeks for up to 2 years and i can not pay this 24 month contract of £50 a month it would just be a complete waist when i also need to get an australian sim card so i can recieve calls off companies once i find a job. I know that because its in my name when i bought it im going to be the one in the trouble. I just really need any help atall on how i may be able to cancel the contract by going abroad. Many Thanks x

Were you not aware in December that you were going away? Somebody will have to see out the contract I'm afraid0

Going abroad is not a valid reason to break your contract. Death or bankruptcy are the only permissible options, neither of which is likely to appeal...
Sell the phone and put the proceeds towards the remainder of the contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
As above, you'll have to pay it off or find someone that can pass the credit check to pass it on to. If you just go and leave it your credit file will get trashed. When you get back you'll be unable to get any credit for the next 5 years. . .0

Get a job in Oz BEFORE you go (surely a good idea anyway) and during contract negotiations for relocation, insist on help in the cost of closing out phone contracts and other utilities.
Quite common when relocating for work overseas, although they may just lump it all in to a single relocation figure.
Some networks will let armed forces being deployed overseas to put their contracts on hold, but not civilians as far as I know.
Otherwise ^^ what the other guys said ^^0 -
Great thanks for all the help. I didn't actually know i was going to oz until a few weeks ago.. im only 19 and doing a working holiday!!0

In that case you need to budget for paying off Orange. Sell the phone, that will help reduce the debt, and then use your wages to clear it off.0

They will suspend the contract if you're going away, you can pick it up where you left off when you come back. Or you could sell the iPhone and pay the contract off, or you could just leave the country and not worry about it.0

So the OP comes back in a few months to a trashed credit record? Not very good advice. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
