I am with EDF(dual fuel) Online Saver version 5 and now is the time to start comparisons with the imminent price rise.
MSE tells us that the comparison sites take the price rises into account.I find that ambiguous.e.g if i enter 'online Saver v5' into the comparison then i see that i cannot make ANY savings but if i enter 'Standard' tariff then there are loads of cheaper tariffs.
Yes,it is confusing. In other words i dont see that the price rise is taken into account.
And p.s. on Energyhelpline i dont see 'online saver v5' under electricity.
Are there any other Online saver v5 people finding it difficult to compare?
Many thanks

I can now see 'online saver 5 ' on Energyhelpline'
However i reckon that to compare prices i actually need to enter 'standard' tariff as this is what i will be on come 1st April(and not my current tariff as MSE suggests)0 -
Did EDF not announce that the price rise will not apply to online tariffs? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I dont know where youve heard that from? I have a letter in my sweaty mitt informing me that my online saver comes to an end on 31.3.11 and as per tand c's my account will go to standard tariff rates(and they have very obligingly enclosed their new prices)..
Very unfortunate,so looks like all change again0 -
To add,i think that if you are in the middle of an online plan then EDF prices may not rise, but mine comes to a natural end anyway...0

It was reported on another V7 thread. Well obviously if your tariff comes to an end, then you revert to standard tariff by default and so the price will rise. I simply said that they had announced that online tariffs will not increase. All others (except fixed of course) will.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I have the same tariff as you which is also ending on 31/03. I haven't been able to find anything cheaper (but by switching it will be a lot cheaper than going on their standard tariff). I'm going to give them a call to see if they can offer me something suitable, if not I'll be switching soon.0

As I understood it OS7 prices remain the same for the time being. Other prior versions will have rises and it looks like the OP has had that notification.
As the contract end date is end of March, it is worth doing the comparison now. All suppliers have increased prices, so we are in as stable a position as you are likely to get.
It doesn't really matter, which product you are currently on, although you would generally use your existing tariff as a reference point. As you will revert shortly to standard prices,I can understand using that as well.
The important thing is to find the cheapest alternative by entering KWh consumption details for both fuels.
A switch will take 4 to 6 weeks, so if you commence the switch say a week into March, you will avoid any termination fees, if any,by the time the switch is completed, but also minimise the time on the standard rates.
Hope this helps.:)0 -
If you have a deal that is coming to an end shortly, then you should compare using the tariff you will on at the expiry of the deal.
EHL (and perhaps others?) sometimes offer a 'helpful' service that guesses what this may be if you enter a current traiff that is due to end soon. I don't know how reliable this is, hence my advice.
If your deal doesn't end until 31 March (and assuming there are early exit fees), don't switch earlier than 28 days before to ensure you avoid these."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Hope you succeed, and will be interested in your results.
I have done the comparisons and it appears that EDF's online saver V8 is the best there is in my circumstances. In fact they tell me that my monthly bills will be less looking at consumption.Incredible really:T0 -

Good news. The transition from one tariff to another within the same Supplier should go smoothly.
I am sure EDF have now got their act together and it will go like clockwork. Please let us know how you get on.
