There was no mention of claiming it back from their head office, and since they did not even have a form for me to use to make a claim (although they did reluctantly say that if I really wanted one they could print one out, but it would take some time), I was not able to find out that I had to claim from their head office.
That was my understanding of the OP, you cant do it which is what I posted.
When you claim zero rated VAT you do nothing but fill in a short form which takes a minute tops, there is no psoting the form off or anything and no ID is required normally (but for new cars they do reqire ID)0 -

I'm not disabled but my brother is and I'm researching the 2011 ATOS stuff for him, I did read a very heavy duty pdf yesterday that explicitly stated that you can not ... can not, claim from the IR it has to be dealt with by the retailer as someone else earlier in the thread said.
To be fair / unfair to the retailer, as usual they roll out a money grabbing idea without any staff training budget and the minimum wage front of house staff have no idea about the rules, its not their fault. Go back get them to give you a print out and if they have strayed outside of legislation go back and ask for a free £5k electric buggy or you will reportthem
N.B. VAT / TAX / Sickness Benefit / Pregnancy leave etc is all farmed off to retailers / businesses by our government.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. To the user thinking of buying a Sapphire 2, think carefully, Halford are not the cheapest and they advertise them as being able to be charged off board when infact you need to buy an off board charging loom to charge the batteries off the scooter0

Great deals (online & instore) now as Halfords are stopping selling this stuff. I bought there today and cashier gave me a paper form to complete and send to HALFORDS Financial Reporting dept to claim back the VAT - no problem!0

say no problem when you get the money back, not when you get a worthless piece of paper.0
