Cavity wall insulation - does it deteriorate?

Hi
We have an old house that apparantly was fitted with cavity wall insulation back in the 70's (got holes in the wall and a certificate) lol!
Can anyone advise if the insulation deteriorates over time please as the house feels cold most of the time despite new windows.
If so, how do you know what state its in?
Thanks

If the CWI was installed in the 70's then it will be a foam material which has been known to deteriorate over time. The only way to check what state its in is to drill a hole and check the cavity but its known to deteriorate more around the windows.
We now use much better materials which is more effective but, short of extracting it, which is costly, theres not much else you can do£2 Savers Club #156!
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0 -
Some types of cavity wall insulation can lose their insulation properties when they get damp. If rain is penetrating through the outer skin the insulation will get damp and be less effective.0
