Magnet kitchens - our kitchen nightmare!

Well, where do I start?

Our new fitted kitchen should have been installed by Magnet back in November. After three stress-filled, nightmarish months it was finally completed earlier this month.

In the meantime we have had over eight sets of worktops, three lighting pelmets, two cornices, many replacement doors, electrcs with bare wires visible, countless fitters turning up to "remedy" faults (and introduce new ones)... not to mention an installation that Magnet's own Retail Services Manager called "a disgrace", which inclded dishwashers that you couldn't get a plate in or that filled with water and failed, worktops that were cut short of walls, cupboards that came apart, massive gaps and out-of-line units... and products that should have been QA'd but weren't, such as the flawed worktops.

In addition to this, Magnet didn't "manage" the project until we escalated it to their MD, nor did they ever clean the installation ater fitting as promised on their website (apart from the last visit), leaving our kitchen full of sawdust on many occasions. I lost the use of our garage for nearly three months in winter, and their problem-solving ability was non-existent. And they even gave the finance company (Barclays) the wrong figure, over charging us for the kitchen!

So all in all it's been a nightmare. We finally got "over the line" earlier this month, and we are now debating the amount of compensation we feel that we are due from the impact they have had on our lives (remember, this was over the Christmas period, and it reduced my wife to tears on more than one occasion.)

We have created a website www (dot) kitchen-nightmare (dot) com, in case anyone wants to read and take a look at what happened to us. The least we can do is let other potential customers know what we went through as they make their decisions!

Cheers,
GaryD.

Sorry, we had to remove the link above as we are new users. We aren't spammers, so if anyone that's been here for a while could post the "proper" form of the link we would be grateful (as I am sure, would others!)

    Great website, Gary.

Didn't want to read & run ... can't offer much advice on the compensation aspect ... just wanted to say that some of their work is amateurish at best. Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction. And I hope other prospective Magnet Kitchen customers see your website before they sign on the dotted line.
I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.

Thanks. We'll see what happens re compensation, but I am not holding my breath. My inention with the website was to let others know what can happen, so if just a few people see it and think again, then it's had the desired effect. In the current climate what we spend is hard-earned, and companies that treat customers in this was deserve, I think, to be named and shamed.

The problem is, who do you choose? I know someone who is very pleased with a Magnate kitchen.. You will find complaints on any make of kitchen, just Google, ie
    B&Q, Homebase etc,etc.

I wouldn't go with any company that insisted on ALL the money up front. Why should they ? They don't lay out the whole lot, even 50% is reasonable.
'Tis better to have loved and lost than to live with the psycho the rest of your life :rotfl::T:rotfl::eek:
