Hi
we run a small business from home and have just been visited by a Unicom rep.
I asked him to leave the forms with me and I would make a descision by tomorrow. they seem to be offering cheaper business calls than BT.
But I want to investigate and so far it's not looking great.
I am trying to keep an open mind because most companies will have some complaints. Anyone out there got some info I would be grateful.

Tomorrow is rushing things. Don't be rushed (you will regret it).
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/search.php?searchid=99064728Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Download their T&C's and see if you can work out their minimum term contract and the resulting ETC should you want to break it. I certainly couldn't. Any company with terms as opaque as that is sure to have other surprises in store for you as well.
Don't do it. Their claimed percentage savings are also ludicrously high.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

So it looks like a minimum 3 year contract, and you have to give notice 3 months prior, or it auto-renews for another 3 years. Plus massive ETC's...
Still going to sign up tomorrow, OP?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
well thanks everyone that pretty much confirms my initial feelings.
I can see why people do sign on the day though. They are in your home and to be fair he wasn't intimidating but suprised when I said I wasn't signing there and then and i had to reiterate that no matter what, I wanted to read through the paperwork first.
thanks again I will definately be logging on here again0 -
Did he conveniently forget to mention the minimum term and the ETC then?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

The worst business decision I ever made was to enter into a contract with Unicom (Universal Utilities) (Switchingon). Their business practice of automatically renewing 3 year contracts without first contacting the customer is in my opinion absolutely appalling. Their excessive early termination charges are even worse.
If the site below with an analysis of their contract was available before I joined Unicom I would have avoided like the plague.I am new here and am not allowed to post a link but this will get you there via Google
