Grrr, window cleaner scratched the brickwork

Window cleaner came round earlier and he managed to scratch the wall with his ladder  is there anything I can do to somehow repair the damage or will it eventually disappear? Window cleaner just shrugged his shoulders when I complained so I told him not to bother coming back.

I can't really see that a scratch in an outside brick is much to worry about. It will weather in a few months and you'll hardly see it.

If it's a standard brick wall, you can actually remove a brick if it really bothers you. Basically, scrape out the mortar from all round it, remove it and replace it with a new one. However, it'll almost certainly be a different colour to the surrounding bricks, as they will have weathered, so it may actually look more conspicous than the scratched one !

He won't have 'scratched your bricks', he will have left a bit of his ladder on your wall.

Pressure washer, scrubbing brush or a stiff broom will get it off.

    Or just ignore it.

  • The dirt from the unwashed windows should cover it nicely in about 3 months.

  • Thanks everyone. I've calmed down a bit now  - I was just a bit annoyed by the fact that he'd just scraped his ladder down the wall instead of moving it properly and then his attitude after I noticed the scratch. The house is red brick so the scratches really stands out (IMO) - maybe anyone else wouldn't notice it. Fingers crossed it'll "weather". :(

It will weather, and nobody will even notice it. It's an exterior wall for goodness sake, and who knows what will happen to it over the years, or indeed has happened?
Especially after all the harsh weather we've had, the slightest imperfection on a brick, and the frost getting in can make bits of brick come off. It doesn't look that bad, and it will have blended in within a couple of months.
