Asked this before but didn't get a clear answer?

I don't think you'll get a clear answer as we don't agree.
You should declare an accident.
Your wife should declare a claim.
If your mil has made a claim for the named drivers, she should declare a claim (or claims) as well.
Anything else could come back and bite you.
A broker would be a good idea to see if they can get you a better quote.
Thanks mate.
Now I've had 3 different replies:
1. One says declare under my name and nothing under wife
2. Other says declare claim under wifes name and say I had the accident under my details (even though there is no area for this)
3. And you my friend, advises that I complete it for both sections as I did last year.
Can it get more confusing than that?
Cheers!0 -

Not confusing. You have to complete the information under both sections.
You both had a claim for an accident that was your fault in this particular case.
Remember that comparison sites are formated in a fairly simplistic way, to satisfy the requirements of the 30+ Insurers that offer rates via them.
Personally I would not advise people to use comparison sites if they have had claims. Yes useful to get an idea of quotes, but you should really speak to the Insurers to make sure that they have the correct information to base the premium on. or even better, use a decent brokers (not Swintons) who will take all the information from you once and then obtain a number of quotes for you.The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

Thank you sir.
Can you recommend the broker to use? Which one do you use?
Thanks again0 -

This would mean you were declaring 2 claims!
The correct way to declare this is against the named driver only.
Should the named driver no longer be on the policy, then that is when the policyholder would need to declare the claim.0 -
If it's not clear then I'd say ring the insurer or use a broker.
If you ring the insurer get a name and time & date of phone call (can be used sometimes to retrieve recordings).
If you get it wrong you'll have to bear the consequences yourself and you won't have any comeback on anyone here.
If you use a broker they aren't perfect but they are insured against mistakes.
If you DIY then make sure you have "evidence".
In writing is best, but name, date & time can help if you are happy that's sufficient.0 -

I did say we don't agree.
You're probably never going to get an answer.
The only opinion that matters though is the insurers when you make a claim. If you said "no", where they believe you should have said "yes", it'll drag your claim out for months at best.
Get an online quote, then phone up the insurer, tell them the information, and see what they want to do. You should have an idea of the prices for the various options, so you can see what loadings the're putting on, and then discuss that with them.
Speak to a local broker, they will do the same.
Either way, so long as it's all written down, you'll be covered.0 -

I understand what you are saying. However, I think the formatting of the comparison sites and the way the data is transfered to the Insurers sites, would make that option a bit perilous.
This is the problem with comparison sites where consumers can get themselves into a difficult position, if they don't check the information carefully.
As I said to the OP. Better from them to speak to Insurers or a broker, so they can make sure they are getting quoted on the correct basis. The comments I post are personal opinion. Well the price I got quoted on MSM for declaring the accident under both names and one name is exactly the same.
Admiral come on top with £1600.00 per year if paid monthly and £1431.00 if paid in one go.0 -
Totally thought my insurance was up for renewal at the end of March (same time as MOT) but surprisingly mistaken. It is valid under 12th June BABY!0
