As the title suggests, do you have a price limit when it comes to your sons clothing and footwear. I ask as my ds2 who is 14 thinks I am tight because I won't spend £60 on a pair of trainers and almost £30 on a pair of jogging bottoms!

    Is it just me?

Tell him you dont spend that much on your own clothes so why should you on his. Tell him he can do that when he earns?

I spend enough to try and make my two look presentable! We went to a ball in September and the kids were invitied too. As such, we had to go out and buy DS something smart. We got him a shirt, tie, waistcoat and trousers from BHS. It cost £35 but he wears it all the time (thank you Dr Who!). They still look good too despite him being a typical grubby 7 year old (he was 6 when we got it!). In fact he wore it yesterday. "Because we're going to a posh restaurant with Grandma after we've been to the cinema, so I've got to look nice Mum!" How cute is that when they say it with loads of teeth missing :D?
DD turned 9 in November. Her main present from us was a pair of black leather and suede Timberland boots which cost £45. Her feet are size 4 though. I got her coat from thebay. It is Boden, second hand and I paid £24 for it but I expect to be able to resell it. I go to the outlet shops to buy their clothes too and will get her monsoon and gap items. I have just listed a load of things on ebay and have managed to get back almost half of what I paid out. That seems a worthwhile investment to me and I prefer to keep things out of landfill.
I try to choose materials which are forgiving because they wash easier. Patterns are better too because they hide marks better.
We buy their trainers from sportsdirect (I hate that shop too!) and they always have branded trainers. Not because I'm a brand freak but because they seem to fit better. DD has massive wide feet and wears skater type trainers. DS has long thin feet and wears trainers like adidas and k-swiss.
This said, I don't go shopping all the time. The only reason their wardrobes are stacked is because I'm not fast enough at decluttering what they outgrow!
When they get older, I will continue to go for fit and cut over price any day. It's worth paying the extra for things to last longer and for them to look presentable.

Sports direct are cheap for the brand names, I wear joggers for work and they're about a tenner for adidas etc. They do discount trainers too.

I have to say trainers are my downfall, latest pair are £75, but they will last a long time so I dont mind too much, my parents would never have bought them for me though, when they bought my clothes it was primark jeans & t's, and shoe zone trainers lol

I always knew i was a bit warped in the head - my viewpoint on clothes being summed up with what i used to say "i could buy an Armani suit, sure it'll look the dogs danglies, but the thing is my £15 jeans & t-shirt does exactly the same thing - just that's only £15 to avoid seeing my pasty white backside rather than £500!".

I think it's a bit daft when you see jeans at £50-100 (probably more cos i'm short & fat - you could prolly print Superdry's address on my backside big enough to read it from 10ft!) same with t-shirts, especially as a teenager and you're still growing. Trainers on the other hand, that's where i don't mind spending a bit extra, nothing is a bigger downer on a day than sore/wet feet and it's really bad for you long term - but hey, so is wearing trainers but still Sports Direct for me £30. (although Mum does say i should go to John Brown's Shipyard - nonsense, i'm only a 10!) But hey, maybe it's just me being tight fisted, but the afforementioned short, fat & speccy means that dress me up in brands all you want, i'm still short, fat & speccy - just as well i've got a smart mouth on me or i'd never find a woman who'll have me....oh wait!!!
