Just adopted two cats

One is called Candi the other Floss - both sisters. Candi is a tabby, Floss a black and white.

Candi is friendly and has a very expressionate tail. It fluffs up to twice its size when she's inquisitive/excited and vibrates/tremors

Floss is a bit of an enigma - doesn't like being picked up, fairly aggressive. Was over groomed by Candi in the cattery though her fur has almost recovered - we assume due to stress. She's not very friendly to her sister at the moment either.

Both a three years old, last four months have been kept in a halogen heated shed in the garden but haven't had a lot of human contact.

Candi is now getting used to being around us and is inquisitive and sitting on our laps, Floss is making a habbit of hiding under things, though she's started to wander a bit around the room.

Both are a little overweight due to the lack of space to exercise in their enclosures - hoping they'll soon get used to our voices and can get outside to chase things and drop some weight.

From a MSE point of view, don't bother buying exciting looking scratching posts, the cardboard box they come in is much cheaper and more used.

Welldone on your adoption. They sound exactly like my two - one tabby one black and white and their personalities seem similar too!

I'm hoping the black one settles down and becomes more of a lap cat... I don't mind not picking a cat up, but generally all of the cats I'm used to like being held, so any suggestions appreciated!

My Black and white cat won't let you pick her up she loves "Dreamies" (little treats from Asda/Tesco I used to use them to bribe her out of her hidey holes (generally under the tv cabinet) and then just smooth her which she loves. It took a good few weeks for her to come to my lap but she does all the time now - on her terms still, if you're not smoothing her correctly she moves away! She is just a generally shy cat though, whenever we have visitors she disappears to my bedroom so always make sure she has a safe place that she an escape to.
