There is NOTHING that stops hair growth permanently

IPL and even electrolysis can only offer permanent hair growth REDUCTION

    It will eventually grow back

Speak to any Dermatologist or Tricologist and they will tell you the same

Well when I got my Boots Smooth Skin, I did the treatment for the recommended time on my underarms and bikini line.

I have not done any since - although keep meaning to get back to using it, as would like to do my legs.

Anyhow, this was over 1.5 years ago now (probably in fact nearer 2 years) and even so, I only need to tidy up my bikini line very rarely, say once or twice a year.

And I only do this because I feel I need to be extra careful with it because I go swimming frequently. So although nothing could be called 'permanent', to me it is as good as. If in a while I need to run the treatment cycle again that's fine. Very little effort and minimal cost, and so far lasted well over a year and still going strong :D

I've casually peeked in on the SmoothSkin thread and reckoned it wasn't worth parting £s for.

It seems there's a SmoothSkin Plus out now, anyone know the difference between this and the other model? http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Smooth-Skin-PLUS-Intense-pulsed-light-permanent-hair-reduction-_1160101/

Memyelos (Me my elos) looks more promising, but I read a bad review of it elsewhere: http://www.boots.com/en/HoMedics-me-my-elos-permanent-hair-reduction_1190410/

  • Hi All

I just wanted to dispel a few myths and share my experiences as i did a lot of research before buying the Homedics me about five or six weeks ago.

Firstly, I agree with what was said above permanent that hair removal is impossible, it is to do with growth cycles of the hair. Some hairs may lay dormant for years and can not be succesfully treated whilst they are not in the correct phase, hormonal changes in the body can trigger hair growth at different times. These devices (or some of them) offer permanent hair reduction, so any successfully treated follicles are treated permanently and will not grow back, but others that have not yet successfully been treated, still have the potential to grow. That is how it was explained to me in the Boots store.

The point about fluence is not really valid unless the machine is IPL only. In the case of the Homedics me which i chose, it uses something called elos instead of just IPL. This means that it combines RF with IPL, this makes it safer, more comfortable to use and a lot lot faster due to less energy being needed, so you can not burn yourself and don't need gels! It even works better than high energy products as the RF targets the hair follicles specifically according to the technology. I found this out on the Syneron website who are the salon company providing the technology to Homedics. There is a lot of stuff about elos on the web, but some of it gets a bit technical!

The Boots Smoothskin does work based on the reviews, but i chose the homedics one as it is more like using an electric shaver or epilator and only takes ten miniutes per leg. The techmology is newer (Smooth skin is IPL only) and from what i can tell, Smoothskin is not really practical for the legs as it would take forever.

It is soooo easy to use the me and just fees like a gentle warming, quite a pleasant sensation actually. I used to shave my legs pretty much every day, that has already gone to less than once a week i am hopeful that soon I won't have to do it anymore. I have stopped spending £30 a month on a bikini wax too - this area seems to have responded vey well to treatment! I really can not recommend it enough Yes, you do need to keep going with it and will need to buy relacement cartridges, but it is worth it!!! The review on squidoo is a funny one as she seemed to try four times and then give up, which is says clearly in the instructions is not how to do it. I do have dark hair and pale skin, which is perfect for this kind of device - so i don't know how well it would work on different hair types, perhaps this is the difference with my experiences and hers?

    I hope this helps :)

    Hi

I found this thread I was searching for any info on the forum regarding experience of the E-swin system. I guess it's still relatively new and there isn't much on here, but just incase anyone else searches for it and then goes on to actually order it then double check cashback sites for any offers - at present Quidco are offering 10% cashback. As it's such an expensive piece of equipment then this CB would make a big difference.

E-Swin themselves are also currently offering £200 discount for 'Father's day' so I guess its likely that they will offer further discounts in the future

If anyone tries it then please post back. I can't invest in one at present due to other commitments.

    Thanks
  • I did buy one but so far am not that happy with the results - still early days as I have only had it since the end of February. Not seen any great reduction in hair yet and I guess they will have lots of small print and loopholes if I try to claim on the "money back if not happy after 6 months" promise. I will post again in a couple of months, hopefully to tell you I have much less hair or else how I get on if I try to return it.

For the record it feels fine doing legs and armpits, but not so pleasant on bikini line or upper lip.

After spending such a lot of money I really want it to work and it should work as I have the ideal combination of pale skin and dark hair.

Slinky, have you asked your GP about laser hair removal? As you have a medical condition, it may be the NHS may be of help? If not, I know that Sk:n offer discounts to those suffering from Pcos. They also do interest free credit?

It depends on the local PCT - mine has recently withdrawn Vaniqa (a topical cream) which cost about £250 a year because although it was deemed effective it was considered to be treating a cosmetic problem. Laser treatment and electrolysis (in my area) was only available to trans-sexuals but now they've stopped that also.

Anyway I know money is tight and they have other things to spend their limited budgets on, so rant over. :p

Best of luck slinky and please post as to how you get on - I really hope it works for you
